Canada has a longstanding, important relationship with Kenya that contributes to our mutual growth and prosperity.

Today, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, spoke with Betty Maina, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Development.

Minister Ng underscored the important role that Kenya has within the Ottawa Group, including its contributions towards maintaining momentum to ensure success at the WTO 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12). The ministers discussed the importance of continuing work on trade and health as well as WTO reform, notably dispute settlement and transparency.

Canada’s commitment to free trade and export diversification opportunities includes the development of a strategy for economic cooperation across Africa. This discussion demonstrates Canada’s efforts to support its African partners in their work toward implementing the historic African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)— a key to Africa’s future growth and prosperity.
