Today, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, met with Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs and Food and Public Distribution and Textiles.

In the monthly virtual meeting, Minister Ng emphasized the value of advancing trade and investment relations between Canada and India and underlined the progress in negotiations for a Canada-India early progress trade agreement held in July and August 2022.

Minister Ng expressed her appreciation of the spirit of cooperation and compromise that has been a hallmark of the negotiations, and reaffirmed Canada’s goal of maintaining momentum in the fourth round of negotiations, which are scheduled to take place in September.

Canada recognizes that as Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine threatens the rules-based international order, it is more important than ever for democracies to strengthen their ties with each other. Inclusive growth and human rights lie at the core of Canada’s trade policies and engagements.
