Parliamentary Secretary Oliphant travels to Argentina

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced today that the Honourable Robert Oliphant, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, will be in Argentina from September 6 to September 8.

Parliamentary Secretary Oliphant will meet with Argentina’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Santiago Cafiero, in Buenos Aires to discuss shared priorities and issues of mutual interest, including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the respect and promotion of human rights, gender equality and 2SLGBTQI+ rights.

On the second day of his trip, Parliamentary Secretary Oliphant will lead a Canadian delegation to the Equal Rights Coalition international conference. As a founding member of the Equal Rights Coalition, Canada remains strongly committed to advancing 2SLGBTQI+ rights around the world.

During his trip, Parliamentary Secretary Oliphant will also meet with the Argentine-Canadian Chamber of Commerce, 2SLGBTQI+ representatives and the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies.

  • Canada co-chaired the Equal Rights Coalition with Chile from 2017 to 2019 and hosted the Coalition’s inaugural international conference on 2SLGBTQI+ human rights and inclusive development in Vancouver in August 2018.
