The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced today that the Honourable Robert Oliphant, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, will be in Argentina from September 6 to September 8.

We also share important priorities such as the respect and promotion of human rights, gender equality and 2SLGBTQI+ rights at home and abroad. We will continue to build on our relationship and protect the human rights of all our citizens.”

• In 2021, Canada and Argentina celebrated 80 years of strong diplomatic relations founded on diplomacy, trade and investment ties.

• Canada’s first trade office in South America opened in Buenos Aires in 1911.

• Bilateral trade between Canada and Argentina was valued at $1.3 billion in 2021, up 42% from 2020. 

• Canada is Argentina’s largest foreign investor in the mining sector, with investments reaching more than US$8 billion.

• The Equal Rights Coalition, launched in 2016, is made up of 42 member states as well as civil society organizations and UN agencies.

• Canada co-chaired the Equal Rights Coalition with Chile from 2017 to 2019 and hosted the Coalition’s inaugural international conference on 2SLGBTQI+ human rights and inclusive development in Vancouver in August 2018.
