November 25, 2022 - Ottawa, Ontario - Global Affairs Canada

The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, today issued the following statement on Canada’s efforts to become an Associated State to the Pacific Alliance.

“On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Canada becoming an Observer to the Pacific Alliance, I welcome its interest in prioritizing Canada’s accession to Associated State status.

“For Canada, this will mean deeper economic and trade ties with these key partners in Latin America as we build toward shared goals, including fostering inclusive trade and opening the door to enhanced regional cooperation.

“We thank Mexico for its leadership on this issue and look forward to engaging with our Latin American partners as we continue on a path toward achieving Associated State status and expanding the Canada-Pacific Alliance trade and economic relationship.”
