Canada announces funding for projects in Jordan

Backgrounder

Canada has announced $28.5 million in development assistance funding for 3 projects in Jordan. It is being distributed as follows.

Jordan Health Fund for Refugees II

Government of Jordan: $16.5 million

Through the Jordan Health Fund for Refugees, this project will support the efforts of Jordan’s Ministry of Health to ensure better health outcomes for hundreds of thousands of UN High Commissioner for Refugees–registered refugees, particularly women and girls. Canada’s contribution, along with those of other donors, will offset the additional costs of providing health services to refugees through Jordan’s public health system.

Enhancing Climate-Resilience of Biodiversity Hot Spots in Jordan

International Union of Conservation of Nature: $7 million

This project aims to improve the resilience of climate-vulnerable ecosystems and to increase the size of restored forest ecosystems in southern Jordan. It also aims to increase the participation of women, youths and marginalized groups in decision-making processes so they benefit from the implementation of nature-based solutions in the region.

Jordan National Action Plan for Women, Peace and Security

Pooled fund through UN Women: $5 million

This project supports international efforts to promote stability and security in Jordan. It seeks to enhance women’s active participation in Jordanian security, military, diplomatic and justice centres, as well as in crisis prevention and response. The Jordan National Action Plan for Women, Peace and Security, a key policy framework for addressing Jordan’s security and stability challenges, aligns with the Government of Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy commitments to ensure gender equality and women’s empowerment.
