The Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, met with Antonio Tajani, Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Rome, Italy. The meeting took place on the first day of Canada’s trade mission to Italy.

Building on the momentum generated by the recent G7 Trade Ministers’ Meeting and G7 Leaders’ Summit hosted by Canada, ministers Sidhu and Tajani stressed the importance of continuing to work together to deepen trade, commerce and investment ties, drive economic growth, create good-paying jobs and foster long-term prosperity.

Minister Sidhu underscored the clear benefits of the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and encouraged progress towards Italy’s ratification of the agreement.

Ministers Sidhu and Tajani emphasized the importance of fostering stronger commercial ties between Canadian and Italian businesses to promote shared prosperity and global competitiveness, particularly in the sectors of aerospace, defence and security, clean technology, infrastructure and energy. As part of these efforts, Minister Tajani also agreed to work toward bringing a trade delegation to Canada in the near future.
