Minister Sidhu meets with Vietnam’s Minister of Industry and Trade

Yesterday, the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, met with His Excellency Nguyen Hong Dien, Vietnam’s Minister of Industry and Trade, on the margins of the 47th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Malaysia.

As Canada continues to diversify its trade around the world, Minister Sidhu reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to Vietnam as a key commercial partner in the Indo-Pacific region, including collaboration in important sectors such as agriculture, energy, critical minerals, aerospace, and clean technology.   

Minister Sidhu reiterated Canada’s commitment to conclude the ASEAN-Canada free trade agreement negotiations in 2026. The minister recognized strengthened economic ties under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), highlighting the upcoming CPTPP-ASEAN Dialogue and Vietnam's CPTPP Chairship in 2026.
