Biographical note – Diplomatic appointment

Deborah Gomes-Schultz (BA [Political Science and International Development], McGill University, 1994; MA [Human Rights], University of Essex, 2001) joined the Canadian International Development Agency in 1999. At Headquarters, she was deputy director and head of Canada’s National Contact Point for Responsible Business Conduct, deputy director in the Office of the Deputy Minister of International Trade (2020 to 2022) and director of the Office of the National Chair for the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (2022). She has also served in the Strategic Planning, Operations and Policy divisions of the Africa and Americas branches, as well as in the Child Protection Division. Overseas, she has served at the embassies to Egypt and Senegal. Most recently, she was director of the International Crime and Counterterrorism Policy Division.
