While exposure of the general population to phenacetin is not of concern at current levels, this substance is considered to have a health effect of concern due to its potential to cause cancer. Therefore, there may be a concern for human health if exposures were to increase. The proposed follow-up activity for phenacetin is to apply the Significant New Activity (SNAc) provisions of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999).
