Final screening assessment and proposed risk management approach

In November 2011, the Final Screening Assessment for Quinoline was released and the related notice was published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, Vol. 145, No. 47 - November 19, 2011.

The final screening assessment concluded that quinoline poses a risk to the environment as set out in section 64(a) and a risk to human health as set out in section 64(c) of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999). Additionally, quinoline meets the criteria for persistence but not for bioaccumulation potential as set out in the Persistence and Bioaccumulation Regulations.

A proposed Risk Management Approach for Quinoline was also released on this date for a 60-day public comment period. This approach builds on the previously released risk management scope, and outlines, in more depth, the risk management actions for this substance, including the choice of risk management instruments.

Draft screening assessment and risk management scope

In July 2010, the Draft Screening Assessment for Quinoline was released and the notice was published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, Vol. 144, No. 31 - July 31, 2010 for a 60-day public comment period. A risk management scope was also released on this date for a 60-day public comment period. No comments were received from the public.

Background

Before the launch of the Chemicals Management Plan in 2006, quinoline was selected for screening assessment. Subsequently, under the categorization exercise, quinoline was found to meet both the ecological and human health criteria.
