Upgrades to drinking water treatment facility in Sicamous now complete

News Release

Initiative made possible thanks to funding from federal, provincial and local governments

Sicamous, British Columbia – July 5, 2016

A modern and effective drinking water treatment system is essential to ensure people have access to safe water. Taking action to ensure water systems are reliable often comes with a high price tag for communities. That is why the governments of Canada and British Columbia supported a project to upgrade the water treatment plant in the District of Sicamous.

Now completed, the updated system is equipped with an ultra-filtration system and has capacity to handle all of the community's potable water needs. It provides residents with clean and clear drinking water and finally puts an end to their long-term boil water advisories.

Funding for this project was provided through a joint contribution of $3 million from the governments of Canada and British Columbia, under the Provincial-Territorial Base Fund. The District of Sicamous contributed the remaining balance of funding for this $7.8 million project.
