Lanaudière Regional Transit Council acquires a traveller information system
News Release
Quebec City, Quebec, December 12, 2016
Lanaudière's transit users will benefit from an improved transit system thanks to joint funding from the governments of Canada and Quebec to the Lanaudière Regional Transit Council (CRTL). This initiative will help to improve the quality of life of residents and to promote sustainable development and prosperity for the region.
The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, Pablo Rodriguez, on behalf of the Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, along with the Minister of Transport, Sustainable Mobility and Electrification of Transportation, Laurent Lessard, are announcing financial assistance of over $4.3 million to the CRTL for the acquisition and installation of a traveller information system in two of its territories: the Des Moulins MRC and the L'Assomption MRC.
These projects will enable the CRTL to improve client service and system management, facilitate travel management, and address a number of operational concerns. For users, the system will provide real-time information on delays, service interruptions and bus stop times, as well as rapid access to route schedules and nearest bus stop locations.
To carry out these projects, the CRTL will receive up to $4,344,501 under the Federal Gas Tax Fund financial assistance program and a contribution from Quebec under the Programme d'aide aux immobilisations en transport en commun of the Société de financement des infrastructures locales du Québec. The program has a total budget of $983.1 million for the years between 2014 and 2019, including $485.5 million from the federal government and $497.6 million from the government of Quebec.
