Appointment of new members to the Impact Assessment Roster for integrated assessments

Public Notice

March 12, 2021 — The Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has appointed new members to the Impact Assessment Roster (IA Roster) for assessments by review panel under the Impact Assessment Act (IAA). The updated IA Roster consists of 24 individuals who are eligible for cross-appointment for integrated assessments with lifecycle regulators.

The IA Roster is a list of eligible candidates who may be appointed as members or chairpersons of independent review panels. These members are appointed by the Minister to assess the potential impacts of designated projects under IAA. IA Roster members appointed to integrated review panels may also be cross-appointed by Governor in Council (GIC) as Commissioners of the Canada Energy Regulator (CER) or Members of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) as appropriate.

The 24 members were selected in compliance with the Open, Transparent and Merit-Based process for GIC appointments, a prerequisite for any panel member who would be cross-appointed to the CER or the CNSC for integrated assessments.

The new members of the IA Roster have diverse expertise and backgrounds that are relevant to the review of proposed projects. All candidates are qualified to examine complex issues as part of project assessments with a broad range of stakeholders and jurisdictions. These include issues in new areas of consideration under the new Act such as socio-economic and gender-based considerations.
