Minister Chagger Salutes Canadian Entrepreneurs at the Beginning of Global Entrepreneurship Week

Statement

Ottawa, November 16, 2015—On the occasion of Global Entrepreneurship Week, which began today, the Honourable Bardish Chagger, Minister of Small Business and Tourism, made the following statement:

"Global Entrepreneurship Week is meant to honour the creativity—and tenacity—of the world's entrepreneurs. Through their energy and business acumen, they turn ideas into action.

"Canadians know the challenges and rewards of running a small business well. In this country, small and medium-sized enterprises employ 90 percent of the private sector workforce and contribute about 40 percent to Canada's gross domestic product.

"As a life-long resident of Waterloo, Ontario, one of this country's innovation hotbeds, I am familiar with the entrepreneurial spirit and how we must work together to sustain it."

"Our government is committed to helping small and medium-sized enterprises that seek to be more productive, innovative and export-oriented. As Minister of Small Business and Tourism, I will support businesses as they grow through trade and innovation."
