Minister Bains congratulates Bombardier on prestigious industry award

Ottawa, March 3, 2017—Today, Bombardier Inc., Canada’s largest aerospace company, announced that its C Series aircraft has been awarded the 2017 Civil Aviation Laureate Award from Aviation Week magazine. The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, made the following statement:

“I would like to congratulate Bombardier on this significant achievement. This award recognizes the important work that has gone into the development of the C Series aircraft. It also highlights the impact that the C Series is already having on the global aviation industry.

“The C Series is the first new narrow-body aircraft in decades. This made-in-Canada innovation brings clean technologies to the aerospace industry. The aircraft is quieter and flies longer distances on less fuel. This improved performance results in lower operating and maintenance costs as well as lower emissions compared to existing aircraft.

“This award marks the second year in a row that excellence in Canadian aerospace is being recognized. In 2016, the Civil Aviation Laureate Award went to John Crichton, the former CEO and president of NAV CANADA, the world’s second-largest air navigation service.
“Bombardier is a leading-edge company and a key anchor in Canada’s world-class aerospace industry. The company has been Canada’s top corporate investor in research and development since 2012.”
