Backgrounder: Government of Canada to help bring high-speed Internet access to Saskatchewan communities

On January 16, 2026, the Honourable Buckley Belanger, Secretary of State (Rural Development), announced over $11 million in funding to bring high-speed Internet access to communities in Saskatchewan.

Here is an overview of Saskatchewan's connectivity status:

  • Currently, 85.7% of Saskatchewan households have access to high-speed Internet (at least 50 Megabits per second download and 10 Megabits per second upload [50/10 Mbps+]).
  • In 2017, 45.4% of Saskatchewan households had access to high-speed Internet (50/10 Mbps+).
  • By the end of 2026, 90.2% of Saskatchewan households are projected to have access to high-speed Internet (50/10 Mbps+).
