Tribunal Issues Determination of Reasonable Indication of Injury— Polyethylene Terephthalate Resin from China, India, Oman and Pakistan

News Release

Ottawa, Ontario, October 17, 2017—The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (the Tribunal) today determined that there is a reasonable indication that the dumping and subsidizing of polyethylene terephthalate resin from the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of India, the Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have caused injury to the domestic industry.

The Tribunal’s inquiry was conducted pursuant to the Special Import Measures Act as a result of the initiation of a dumping and subsidizing investigation by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). The CBSA will continue its investigation and, by November 16, 2017, will issue a preliminary determination.

The Tribunal is an independent quasi-judicial body that reports to Parliament through the Minister of Finance. It hears cases on dumped and subsidized imports, safeguard complaints, complaints about federal government procurement and appeals of customs and excise tax rulings. When requested by the federal government, the Tribunal also provides advice on other economic, trade and tariff matters.
