The Disc-O-Logue collection includes almost 90,000 popular French-language music songs available in Canada from 1958 to 1985 on LPs and 45-rpm discs.

- An additional song title line will appear when a translation or alternate version of the first song title exists.

songwriter
- Most record companies only credited the songwriter by last name or sometimes by first initial and last name.
- Some composers' names are missing, since they were not added to the original index cards.
- performer

record label
- Names of companies have changed over time: RCA Victor became Victor, Apex became MCA, and so on.
- The companies may be Canadian, French or from other francophone countries.

issue number
- Each issue number identifies a unique disc.
- There are no album titles in this collection, but all the songs on a particular LP will have the same issue number.
- If you want to find all the songs on one album, take note of the issue number for one song and use that to find other songs with the same issue number.

date entered in Disc-O-Logue
- This is the date the information was received for a given recording from a record company or the date Louise Lamothe prepared the recording information from her own personal research (see About the records below). Usually, this date corresponds to the release date from the record company.
About the records
The Disc-O-Logue was a catalogue created by Louise Lamothe in 1962 to help serve the customers of her music store. It is a unique resource for French-language music available in Canada. It was based on files for 90,000 song titles, which are transcribed in this database.

Access the records
To see the original files, you’ll need to visit us in Ottawa. Archival documents are stored off site in our various facilities and can take up to 10 days to arrive at our public location for viewing.
Use the Material Retrieval form to order archival material. You will need your LAC user card number and full archival references for the items you want to order.
