Ship registration records set a course for Collection search
Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is pleased to announce the addition of transcriptions for nearly 84,000 records to Collection search, covering almost 150 years of Canada’s maritime history. These records include vessel registration documents, which provide vital details about a diverse range of ships.
These records have been on quite the journey. Originally stored as physical files in Transport Canada offices across Canada, they were later microfilmed, digitized, and have now been transcribed into fully searchable digital documents in Collection search. We’ve transcribed key fields from these physical records and made them searchable, which means that Canada’s maritime history is easier to discover than ever, wherever you are in the world.
We’ve curated a research list of the files from this collection for you to explore. Also, if you sign up for a LAC ID, you can create and save research lists of your own!
