Submit a request to access LAC records
You can access restricted records, including archival government records, records for former Canadian Armed Forces members, personnel records for former public servants and LAC’s operational records.
Make an online request
Use the Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) Online Request Service to make a request.
For a single request, you can proceed as a guest.
For multiple requests, having an ATIP Online account allows you to:
- Access ATIP Submission Services
 - Create ATIP requests online for electronic delivery
 - Check status of your ATIP requests
 - Retrieve electronic responses to your ATIP requests

You can use one of the two following forms or send a letter citing the Access to Information and Privacy Act:

         Completed ATIP forms, letters and supporting documents can be sent by fax to:

            Informal request
         
         An informal request can be submitted in the form of a signed letter stating clearly and precisely what information is being requested.
With informal requests, there are:
- no fees
 - no legislated deadlines
 - no recourse for a requester in the event they wish to lodge a complaint
