The event “Battlefields” on the Plains of Abraham will highlight the reality of women during the Seven Years’ War

News release

Quebec City, September 5, 2023 – The Plains of Abraham will be taken back to the 18th century on September 9 and 10 for the event “Battlefields.” Over a hundred re-enactors will recreate an army camp of that time while history specialists share what they know. There will be special emphasis on the daily lives of women and how they took part in the conflict of the Siege of Quebec.

This free event is being organized by the Plains of Abraham staff. It will give visitors a chance to talk with such characters as a washerwoman, an innkeeper, a lace maker, and a sash weaver. The public will also discover the wartime reality of the First Nations, meet historians and historical figures who lived back in 1759 and 1760, and get to see musket- and cannon-firing demonstrations.

“Battlefields” is an activity for the whole family. It will be available for free on Saturday, September 9 (1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and on Sunday, September 10 (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) near Martello Tower 1. Organized activities will be held continuously on both days. No reservation is needed.
