The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) has greenlit five new productions and co-productions.

One of the highlights of the upcoming slate of works is Jenny Cartwright’s feature-length documentary film La Course, which will follow four candidates through the 2022 Quebec general election, right up to election day on October 3.

• À moitié chemin – short film

  À moitié chemin is an inspiring personal reflection by a family from the Esgenoôpetitj Mi’kmaq First Nation. Hard-hitting testimonials by the filmmaker’s parents allow us to put our role and our relationships in this constantly evolving society into perspective.

• La Course – feature-length film

  During the run-up to the October 2022 provincial election in Quebec, Jenny Cartwright follows four candidates from newer political parties, whose respective campaigns illustrate the many shortcomings of the electoral system.

• Skinny– short film    
  Director: Eisha Marjara
  Co-producers: Ariel Nasr (Quebec and Atlantic Studio) and Joe Balass (Compass Productions)
  
  As a teenager, director Eisha Marjara narrowly escaped dying from a severe eating disorder. This experimental short is an unflinching look at the alienation of a Punjabi-Canadian girl in a small Quebec town.

• Wabano – short film

• Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying– short animated documentary

  Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying centres on Edith, an 87-year-old living in a personal care home. Several animation techniques interpret Edith’s thoughts on grief and her capacity to live “a hundred lives all over again.”
