The Honourable Jim Carr, Minister of Natural Resources, today delivered keynote remarks at the opening ceremony of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada’s (PDAC) International Convention, Trade Show & Investors Exchange — one of the world’s leading mineral exploration conference and trade shows.

In his remarks, Minister Carr highlighted the sector's importance as an essential economic driver and source of good jobs, including in remote communities and for Indigenous peoples. He emphasized the Government of Canada’s key priorities for the industry, including the need to invest in innovative clean technologies to ensure sustainable natural resource sectors. The Minister discussed the Government’s interim approach for the review of major resource projects and emphasized the importance of public engagement and the Government’s commitment to a renewed relationship with Indigenous peoples — one that is based on respect and partnership.

While at the PDAC convention, Minister Carr chaired a roundtable on Indigenous engagement, innovation and clean technology in mining, and held a bilateral meeting with Ildefonso Guajardo Villarreal, Mexico’s Secretary of Economy.
