Royal Canadian Navy presents Hackathon 2024

The Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), as part of the Marine Careers Expo, is hosting a series of Hackathons from September to November in Newfoundland, Quebec and Ontario.

This series invites students in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields and Trade Schools to come up with innovative solutions to real world challenges faced at sea.

Experience practical demonstrations and competitions and connect with sailors from our Navy and other marine industry partners.

Only 5 Teams will be selected to participate in each leg of the Hackathon! Register early for a chance to be selected!

Scenarios

Life in the Navy is very dynamic and keeping the ship in working order involves many opportunities for team-based problem solving. We ask that participants come prepared to be challenged in the moment like our sailors are every day at sea. Bring your open mind and creativity, but most importantly, your ability to work on a team!

Example scenarios:

*Scenarios will be presented the day of the event.

Judging criteria

Teams will be followed by sailors from the visiting Royal Canadian Navy ship and our marine partners.

Our sailors and partners will evaluate solutions brought forward based on feasibility and potential impact.

Points will be given to the most ingenious solution per event and will be tallied up to find the winning team.

Prizes

Winning teams get to experience a day sail aboard a Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard ship.

Second place teams will be treated to a VIP ship’s tour.

Teams placing third through fifth will walk away with some RCN SWAG.

Announcing the winners

Winners will be announced at the end of the day. The winning teams will also be included on this event page.
