HMCS Outremont

There has been only one vessel named HMCS Outremont in the Royal Canadian Navy.

HMCS Outremont (K322 / 310)

Commissioned at Quebec City, Quebec on 27 November 1943, the River Class frigate HMCS Outremont arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia, on 13 December and carried out work-up exercises in St. Margaret’s Bay, Nova Scotia. She left St. John’s, Newfoundland, on 17 February 1944 to join Escort Group 6, Londonderry, Northern Ireland, and served mainly on escort and patrol duties in British waters. She was present on D-Day.

HMCS Outremont left the United Kingdom on 30 November for refit at Sydney, Nova Scotia, which kept her idle until 20 August 1945. She was paid off on 5 November and sold to Marine Industries Ltd.

Later reacquired by the Royal Canadian Navy and converted to a Prestonian Class ocean escort, she was re-commissioned on 2 September 1955 and served in a training role until finally paid off 7 June 1965. HMCS Outremont was broken up at La Spezia, Italy the following year.
