The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, today announced that the Government of Canada will invest $1.3 million in projects at small craft harbours in Newfoundland and Labrador in 2013-14. The Port Hardy Provincial Court sentenced Ian Garnier, Vessel Master of the F.V. Miss Tatum, on September 19, 2013. Mr. Garnier was found guilty on one count against the Fisheries Act for fishing with a bottom-trawl net inside a closed glass sponge reef area near Queen Charlotte Sound, in northern British Columbia.

The Canadian Coast Guard will proceed with the annual closure of its seasonal search and rescue bases in Québec, Tadoussac, Kegaska, Rivière-Renard and Havre-Saint-Pierre around November 30, 2013. The Cap-Meules base will close on December 31, 2013.
