Ted Opitz, Member of Parliament for Etobicoke Centre, on behalf of the Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today attended the 93rd annual Warriors' Day Parade, held during the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto. This year's parade commemorated the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War and the 70th anniversary of D-Day.
The Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today issued the following statement to mark the 69th anniversary of Victory over Japan (V-J Day).
On behalf of the Government of Canada, the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of International Development and Minister for La Francophonie, marked the 70th anniversary of the Allied Landings in Provence, France, known as Operation Dragoon. Canada was one of 28 nations invited by the Government of France to the ceremony which was held in Toulon, onboard the Charles De Gaulle aircraft carrier.

On behalf of the Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs, Minister of State John Duncan and Member of Parliament for Vancouver Island North, joined members of the British Columbia Chapter of the Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans Association and members from Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt, at the B.C. Legislature Building for a National Peacekeepers' Day ceremony.
