An estimated 40 families in Dryden are eligible to receive money under the Harper Government's boosted Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB), but are at risk of not receiving the benefit unless they apply. At a community barbeque in Dryden today, the Honourable Pierre Poilievre, Minister of Employment and Social Development, and the Honourable Greg Rickford, Member of Parliament (Kenora), Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario, asked for help from the media and the public to encourage families to apply for the benefit.


A Chilliwack resident sentenced for her scheme of counselling foreign au pairs

On June 16, 2015, Elizabeth "Lisa" Large, doing business as International Au Pair Canada, International Au Pair and International Homestays, was sentenced for counselling foreign nationals to misrepresent or withhold material facts as to their coming to Canada to work as caregivers of children, contrary to section 126 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). Large was sentenced to a 15-month conditional sentence order, including five months of house arrest, as well as 100 hours of community service and a $15,000 fine.

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) today announced that Porter Airlines Inc. has agreed to pay $150,000 as part of an undertaking for alleged violations of Canada's anti-spam legislation. Once made aware of the investigation by the CRTC, Porter Airlines was cooperative and immediately took corrective actions to comply with the legislation.
