The Government of Canada has been working to solve the critical shortage of medical isotopes caused by an extended shutdown at the Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. (AECL) research reactor in Chalk River. This shutdown has caused the delay or cancellation of certain medical procedures in Canada and abroad.

I would like to begin by saying how pleased I am to appear before this committee to discuss my perspectives on the medium-term policy issues facing the Bank of Canada. I am looking forward to many future appearances before both this committee and its counterpart in the Senate, since a critical component of the Bank's accountability to Canadians is having the Governor appear periodically before Parliamentarians to explain the Bank's views on the economy, monetary policy, and the financial system.
Good afternoon. I would like to thank you all for joining us today. My name is Bill Sweeney and I am a Deputy Commissioner in the RCMP currently serving in the capacity of Senior Advisor to the Commissioner. I assumed this post in July of this year. Prior to this appointment I served as the Deputy Commissioner in the North West Region, where I oversaw RCMP operations in Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
