One Canadian Forces soldier was killed and four were injured when an improvised explosive device detonated near an armoured vehicle during a patrol in the Shah Wali Kot District. The incident occurred north-east from Kandahar City at around 1:15 p.m., Kandahar time, on 8 March, 2009.

Mr. Bob Dechert, Member of Parliament for Mississauga-Erindale, today announced federal support for the Gateway Centre for New Canadians under the Government of Canada's New Horizons for Seniors Program.
Residents of Grand Falls and Saint-André will benefit from joint federal and provincial investments to improve local water and wastewater services. Combined federal and provincial funding of close to $6.3 million was announced today by Mike Allen, Member of Parliament for Tobique- Mactaquac and the Honourable Ronald Ouellette, provincial Minister of Agriculture and Aquaculture.
