Aboriginal people will gain valuable skills and employment experience required to work in the mining industry through a new strategy announced today. Ed Komarnicki, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development and to the Minister of Labour and Member of Parliament for Souris-Moose Mountain, made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, at the Northern College, Porcupine campus in South Porcupine, Ontario.

SUMMERSIDE, PEI - A Prince Edward Island provincial court judge has ordered the vessel BBC Nordland to pay a $ 15,000 penalty for illegally discharging a pollutant in Canadian waters. On February 22, 2008, the BBC Nordland, a Gibraltar registered General Dry Cargo vessel, that was docked at the Port of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, spilled approximately 300 litres of hydraulic oil during offloading operations.
OTTAWA - Transport Canada today announced airspace restrictions that will be in effect around the city of Ottawa on February 19, 2009. These restrictions will affect aircraft movements in and around the Ottawa International Airport from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

There is no integrated federal approach to managing identity information, resulting in duplication and loss of potential benefits for Canadians, says the Auditor General of Canada, Sheila Fraser, in a Report released today. The audit of how federal institutions manage information they use to identify their clients was released today jointly with an audit of privacy management frameworks, issued by the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, Jennifer Stoddart.
