No. H116/03 For release October 9, 2003CANADA AND PERU SIGN AGREEMENTTO PROMOTE TECHNICALCOOPERATION IN TRANSPORTATIONOTTAWA -- Transport Minister David Collenette, and Minister of Transport of Peru, Eduardo Iriarte Jiménez, today announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for technical cooperation in transportation between Canada and Peru. The agreement will promote the sharing of knowledge between the two countries in air, marine and surface transportation modes. "I am very pleased to sign this memorandum that promotes the exchange of Canada's transportation expertise with Peru," said Mr. Collenette. "As a world leader in transportation safety and security, Transport Canada is constantly seeking ways to work with partners around the world to share transportation knowledge and promote best practices both here and abroad."The Minister of Transport of Peru, Eduardo Iriarte Jiménez, also underlined the importance of the signing of this document and the benefits it will bring to both countries. "This agreement will help improve the level of technical training, knowledge and management of personnel in both the private and public sectors, and users of transportation systems will benefit from an efficient management system for the planning and execution of logistical operations," said Mr.Iriarte.The MOU outlines possible areas where Canada and Peru can cooperate technically, including exchanges of personnel and information, theoretical and practical training, study tours, seminars, and workshops.
