Boudria Announces Repairs at L'Orignal Harbour Facility

L'ORIGNAL - 17 November 2003 - The Honourable Don Boudria, Minister of State and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, announced today on behalf of his colleague, the Honourable Robert G. Thibault, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, that the federal government will invest in repairing the boardwalk at the harbour facility in L'Orignal, Ontario."This investment will provide a safe and efficient boardwalk that can contribute to this area's recreational boating industry for years to come," said Minister Boudria.The L'Orignal facility consists of two wharves and a launching ramp at the end of a long approach, accompanied by a floating breakwater and floating dock system. Wave action over the years has resulted in voids at the base of the concrete retaining wall that supports the boardwalk that provides access to the floating docks. The proposed project involves filling the voids by adding medium sized boulders, as shore protection. It is anticipated that the work will be completed by the end of November.This project is being undertaken by Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Small Craft Harbours in cooperation with the Champlain Township.
