GOVERNMENT OF CANADA ANNOUNCES $453.824 CONTRACT REPAIR RCMP PATROL VESSELS

February 9, 2004SIDNEY, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- A $453,824 competitive contract has been awarded to Philbrook's Boatyard Ltd., of Sidney, B.C., to undertake engine repairs to three patrol vessels on behalf of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). This contract will maintain six jobs and will be completed in February 2004.The announcement was made today by the Honourable Stephen Owen, Minister of Public Works and Government Services."The company will repair the main propulsion engines and gear boxes on board three RCMP vessels," said Minister Owen. "These vessels play a critical role in helping the Mounties stay at the forefront of crime prevention and the protection of our environment. Ensuring a safe and secure environment for Canadians is always a top priority for the Government of Canada."The company will repair the Higgitt and the Nadon, two vessels that operate out of Nanaimo, B.C., as well as the Inkster which is based in Prince Rupert, B.C. These vessels, which can reach speeds of up to 36 knots, come with multi-purpose work platforms. They form part of the RCMP's West Coast Marine Detachment.
