GOVERNMENT OF CANADA ANNOUNCES $585,504 CONTRACT FOR FIRE ALARM AND SPRINKLER SYSTEMS

For immediate releaseOTTAWA, March 4, 2004 -- A $585,504 competitive contract has been awarded to Dieter Theile Contractors, of Ottawa, to install fire alarm and sprinkler systems at the Government of Canada Building located at 555 Mackenzie Street, Ottawa. This contract will maintain eight jobs and will be completed in April 2004.The announcement was made today by the Honourable Mauril Bélanger, MP for Ottawa-Vanier, on behalf of the Honourable Stephen Owen, Minister of Public Works and Government Services."The safety of public buildings is of prime concern to the Government of Canada," said Mr. Bélanger. "The company will install new and up-to-date fire alarm and sprinkler systems, thus making sure that this heritage building adheres to the latest in safety regulations. The work to be carried out is also a demonstration of the government's commitment to the preservation of important heritage buildings and landmarks on behalf of all Canadians." Also known as the Connaught Building, this building was constructed between 1913 and 1925. It was designated a National Historic Site in 1990 and is currently occupied by the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency.
