For immediate releaseVERNON RIVER, P.E.I., March 15, 2004 -- A $919,665 competitive contract has been awarded to Gill Construction Inc., of Vernon River, P.E.I., to upgrade the electrical and data systems at the Daniel J. MacDonald Building in Charlottetown, P.E.I. This contract will create two jobs and maintain four others and will be completed in April 2004.The announcement was made today by the Honourable Shawn Murphy, MP for Hillsborough, on behalf of the Honourable Stephen Owen, Minister of Public Works and Government Services."Congratulations to Gill Construction on winning this important federal contract for the Daniel J. MacDonald Building," said Mr. Murphy. "This is the first phase in a series of renovations aimed at ensuring that this building meets the demands placed on it by increased staff numbers. This contract proves that companies of any size and from anywhere across Canada can do business with the Government of Canada through the open tender process."The company will install cable trays in the ceilings and associated equipment. Gill Construction will expand the sizes of the seven existing electrical rooms as well as build six new data/communications rooms.The Daniel J. MacDonald Building, named after the dedicated MP from Prince Edward Island, was built in 1983.
