GOVERNMENT INTENDS TO SELL PETRO-CANADA SHARES NEXT FISCAL YEAR

Ottawa, March 23, 2004 2004-022 Minister of Finance Ralph Goodale today announced the Government's intent to sell its Petro-Canada shares in 2004-05. The Government of Canada currently owns 49,390,104 common shares of Petro-Canada. Today's announcement does not constitute an offer of any securities for sale. The precise timing of the sale is yet to be determined.
