ASSOMPTION, April 1, 2004 -- The Honourable Hélène Chalifour Scherrer, Minister of Canadian Heritage, today announced Government of Canada support for the Corporation Hector-Charland to help it diversify its 2004-2005 programming, and present its Festival annuel d'innovation théâtrale, to be held from April 22 to 28."The Government of Canada is proud to be associated with this multi-faceted cultural promoter, which continues to foster the vitality and expansion of our performing arts," said Minister Chalifour Scherrer. "The determination and tireless work of organizations such as this one allow Canadians to attend high-quality artistic performances." The Corporation Hector-Charland is a dynamic organization that enhances the culture of the Assomption region by presenting a wide variety of theatre, music, dance, song, and comedy performances, as well as productions aimed at young people. Funding of $80,000 will allow the Corporation to present close to 225 shows throughout its 2004-2005 season.The Corporation Hector-Charland also organizes the Festival annuel d'innovation théâtrale, which showcases French-Canadian theatre and promotes writers of La Francophonie. This cultural gathering features 15 productions, as well as lectures, workshops, conferences, meetings, and forums.Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada program. Arts Presentation Canada seeks to give Canadians more access to direct experiences of the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentation of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences provided by arts presenters.Funding for this initiative was provided for in the March 2004 federal Budget.
