EVEN MORE VARIETY AT MUTEK 2004

MONTRÉAL, April 21, 2004 -- MUTEK 2004 will offer a more varied program than ever, thanks to the participation of the Government of Canada. The Honourable Hélène Chalifour Scherrer, Minister of Canadian Heritage, made the announcement today at the unveiling of the 5th edition of this electronic music festival, which will be held from June 2 to 6, 2004. "The Government of Canada is proud to be associated with this event, a leader in the advancement of technological arts in our country," said Minister Chalifour Scherrer. "This funding will allow many Canadians to become familiar with contemporary electronic music and to discover the best of what is being done in this field." The $15,000 in funding will enable the organizers to offer a program of 11 performances featuring more than 60 musicians from around the world. Various forms of contemporary electronic music will be highlighted in a series of roundtable discussions and workshops in which festival-goers can take part.MUTEK is a not-for-profit organization that encourages the production and distribution of emerging forms of electronic music in this age of digital technology and new media.Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada program. Arts Presentation Canada seeks to give Canadians more access to direct experiences of the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentation of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences provided by arts presenters.
