For immediate release WINNIPEG, Man., April 22, 2004 -- A $247,755 competitive contract has been awarded to Gerb Enterprises of Canada, of Winnipeg, Man., to supply caps to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). This contract will create three jobs and maintain three others and will be completed in April 2005. The announcement was made today by the Honourable Dr. Rey D. Pagtakhan, Minister of Western Economic Diversification and MP for Winnipeg North-St. Paul, on behalf of the Honourable Stephen Owen, Minister of Public Works and Government Services. "The contractor has great expertise in manufacturing fur-trimmed caps that can withstand severe winter conditions such as those regularly faced by the Mounties," said Minister Pagtakhan. "This is one of a number of contracts recently awarded to meet the apparel needs of the RCMP. These cost-effective contracts help our national police force provide excellent safety and security services to Canadians." Under the terms of the contract, Gerb Enterprises of Canada will supply 6,265 caps in regular sizes. It will also supply 10 special-size caps on a call-up basis. All caps will be delivered to the RCMP Headquarters in Ottawa for distribution to detachments across the country. Funding for this contract was provided for in the March 2004 Federal Budget.
