For immediate release WINNIPEG, Man., May 6, 2004 - A $1,159,735 competitive contract has been awarded to Peerless Garments Ltd., of Winnipeg, Man., to fabricate 5,100 patrol jackets for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). This contract will maintain 75 jobs and will be completed in February 2005. The announcement was made today by the Honourable Dr. Rey D. Pagtakhan, Minister of Western Economic Diversification and MP for Winnipeg North-St. Paul, on behalf of the Honourable Stephen Owen, Minister of Public Works and Government Services. "Congratulations to Peerless Garments on winning this contract," said the Minister Pagtakhan. "This win is great news because it will maintain a significant number of jobs in the community. This contract demonstrates both the quality of the products provided by Peerless and the commitment of the Government of Canada to ensuring that our national law enforcement agency has the needed first-rate equipment to provide first-rate service to Canadians." The company will make 5,000 unisex patrol jackets in regular sizes and another 100 in special sizes. The waterproof, navy blue jackets will be delivered to the RCMP headquarters in Ottawa for distribution to detachments across the country. Funding for this contract was provided for in the March 2004 Federal Budget.
