July 19, 2004 OTTAWA – A celebration of early 20th century music will take place on the grounds of Rideau Hall when Le Kiosque à Musique performs a free concert as part of The Governor General's Summer Concert Series, on Sunday, July 25, at 4 p.m. The concert is the fourth of six free outdoor concerts on the Rideau Hall stage featuring Canadian performers. Le Kiosque à musique—an ensemble that consists of violin, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, double bass, percussion and a narrator—is an homage to Canadian musicians of the early 20th century who gathered outdoors in music pavilions and performed with instruments they had at their disposal. The July 25 performance will feature works from composers such as Morley Calvert, Calixa Lavallée, Charles O'Neill, Leo Weiner, Scott Joplin, Arthur Pryor, Georges Bizet, Jean-Joseph Gagnier, Igor Stravinsky and Simon Leclerc. Le Kiosque à musique is presented in association with the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival. Rideau Hall would also like to acknowledge its concert media partners, Le Droit and the Ottawa Citizen. For more information on Le Kiosque à musique, please visit their web site at www.lekiosque.ca.
