August 4, 2004 OTTAWA – On Sunday, August 8, 2004, at 4 p.m., pack a picnic, bring a lawn chair, and come and enjoy the music of one of the top military bands in the country when The Band of the Ceremonial Guard performs a free outdoor concert at Rideau Hall as the final performance of The Governor General's 2004 Summer Concert Series. The Band of the Ceremonial Guard includes brass and reed musicians, percussionists and six pipers. Each summer, the band provides musical support for the Changing of the Guard, the world-famous ceremony held every day during the summer months on Parliament Hill. The band also takes part in a number of musical events in the National Capital Region, including visits from foreign heads of State and other official military functions at Rideau Hall. Tours of the residence will provide an opportunity to walk through Canada's history, to admire the magnificent collection of Canadian art and antique furniture, and to explore the extensive grounds and gardens. Four gates will be open to the public – Sussex Drive, Thomas Street, Mackay Street pedestrian gate and Princess Avenue. MEDIA MAY ENTER THROUGH PRINCESS GATE AND PARK AT A DESIGNATED AREA. Bike racks: Bicycles are not permitted on the grounds. Bicycle racks will be available at the entrances to the grounds. Pets/alcohol: No pets or alcohol on the grounds.
