Government of Canada Supports Glenbow Museum

CALGARY, August 31, 2004 -- Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness and Member of Parliament (Edmonton Centre) Anne McLellan, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Liza Frulla, today announced Government funding for the Glenbow Alberta Institute.Funding of $463,807 will help finance the Institute's project entitled "Mavericks: A History of Alberta." The project involves digitizing a collection of important images, documents and audio-visual material that concern the history of Alberta and its role in Canada's evolution. Financial support is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Canadian Culture Online program, which helps ensure Canadian cultural content in both official languages on the Internet. Funding of $167,000 will be provided to support the Museum's development strategy to ensure its long-term viability and increase its efficiency as an organization. The strategy addresses issues involving new media, tourism, market research and travelling exhibitions. Financial support is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Capacity Building for Heritage Organizations component of its Canadian Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program. The goal of this national program is to support modern management and greater financial stability in Canadian arts and heritage organizations."The Glenbow Museum is one of Canada's foremost heritage institutions, and helps preserve and promote the history and culture of Western Canada," said Minister McLellan.
