Government of Canada Supports the Société nationale de l'Acadie

DIEPPE, September 22, 2004 -- Minister of State (Human Resources Development) and Member of Parliament (Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe) Claudette Bradshaw, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage Liza Frulla, today announced $151,000 in funding for the Société nationale de l'Acadie. The funds will allow the organization to continue to promote Acadia both nationally and internationally and to encourage cooperation among members on various projects."Linguistic duality is a fundamental aspect of our country," said Minister of State Bradshaw. "I am proud that our Government supports the Société nationale de l'Acadie, which is at the centre of efforts to encourage Acadians in our wonderful part of the country.""This funding demonstrates the Government of Canada's commitment to offer Acadian and Francophone communities necessary tools to ensure their economic, social, and cultural development," said Minister Frulla."Financial support is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage under the Canada-New Brunswick-Acadian Community Agreement of the Official Languages Support Programs. The Government of Canada has signed similar agreements with all official-language communities in minority situations.
