OTTAWA, ONTARIO-In honour of Labour Day, the federal Minister of Labour and Housing, the Honourable Joe Fontana, saluted Canadian workers for their contributions to the social and economic development of Canada.
"This country was built by Canadian working men and women who form the bedrock of our society. For the last 110 years in Canada we have celebrated Labour Day on the first Monday of every September, and I want to thank all Canadian workers for their dedication and efforts in the workplace," said Minister Fontana.
The Labour Program of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada promotes a fair, healthy, safe, stable, cooperative and productive workplace. Through its programs, services and legislation, the Labour Program supports workers and employers, and continues to explore new ways of supporting and promoting modern and innovative workplaces which include work-life balance.
"As Minister responsible for over one million workers in the federal jurisdiction, I am committed to helping both workers and employers meet the challenges and opportunities of the changing workplace and a 21st century economy," concluded the Minister.
