PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES THE EXTENSION OF THE GOVERNOR GENERAL'S TERM OF OFFICE

September 30, 2004 Immediate Prime Minister Paul Martin today announced that Her Majesty the Queen has been pleased to approve the continuance in office of Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson as Governor General until September 2005. Her Excellency has accepted the Prime Minister's invitation to stay on for an extended term. "The Governor General has done an outstanding job as Canada's Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Canadian Forces", said the Prime Minister. "In addition to her ceremonial functions, she has reached out to Canadians in communities throughout the country and I am pleased that she has accepted to continue her role for another year."
