OTTAWA, October 4, 2004 -- EDC was today named one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for the fourth consecutive year in an annual survey sponsored by Mediacorp Canada Inc. and Maclean's magazine. "EDC puts a great deal of effort into creating a climate that stimulates and recognizes employee performance and development, and attracts top candidates to our organization so we can fulfill our important role on behalf of Canada's exporters and investors," said Acting EDC President Gilles Ross. "I am delighted that those efforts have again been acknowledged." This achievement is especially notable as Maclean's reported that a record 52,000 employers across Canada were interested in this year's competition. After reviewing the recruitment histories of all these companies, only 6,000 employers were invited to apply. Of these, 100 were recognized as outstanding employers that lead their industries in attracting and retaining quality employees. Employers were evaluated on the following criteria: business expansion and growth, Physical Workplace, Work Atmosphere and Social, Health, Financial and Family Benefits, Vacation and Time Off, Employee Communications, Performance Management, Training & Skills Development and Community Involvement. EDC is very pleased that its efforts to excel in each of these areas are paying off -not only terms of receiving national recognition, but also in terms of building a dynamic, driven and caring organization. EDC provides trade finance and risk management services to Canadian exporters and investors in markets world-wide. Founded in 1944, EDC is a Crown corporation that operates as a commercial financial institution. EDC is self- sustaining and does not receive annual appropriations from Parliament. EDC reinvests its income into its business, enabling EDC to extend the breadth and reach of its services to exporters and investors. - 30 - Media contact: Daniela Pizzuto EDC Public Affairs Tel.: (613) 598-6829 E-mail: dpizzuto@edc.ca www.edc.ca
