MONTRÉAL, October 1st 2004 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage Liza Frulla today announced $15,000 in funding for the Blue Metropolis Foundation to support the presentation of five activities entitled "The Salons Bleus". "The Blue Metropolis Festival has become a major event on Canada's literary scene," said Minister Frulla. "I am delighted to support activities that will complement the Festival and contribute to Montreal's vibrant culture." The Salons Bleus will feature artists from Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia, and New Brunswick. Many authors, storytellers, publishers and translators will gather to discuss various subjects relating to literature and its associated arts, including screenwriting.Founded in 1997, the mission of the Blue Metropolis Foundation is to advance both French and English-language literature. Through a variety of activities, including an international festival, this organization brings writers together from across Canada and around the world, in an atmosphere where creative writing can flourish. Blue Metropolis is also dedicated to educational programs in arts and literature.Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Arts Presentation Canada program. This program seeks to give Canadians an appreciation of Canada's rich and diverse culture through festivals, live professional performances, or other performing arts events. It is part of the Tomorrow Starts Today initiative, which has been renewed for a fourth year, with $207 million in funding.
