No. H117/04 For release November 30, 2004 OTTAWA - Transport Minister Jean-C. Lapierre today announced the appointment of Jean Gérin of Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Quebec, to the board of directors of the Federal Bridge Corporation Limited. "I am pleased that Mr. Gérin has agreed to serve as a member of the board of the Federal Bridge Corporation Limited," said Mr. Lapierre. "His professional experience in insurance, actuary, municipal politics and financial administration will be an asset to the corporation." Mr. Gérin, who began his career as an actuary of group insurance at Sun Life Canada and l'Assurance vie Desjardins, was the consulting actuary of benefit provisions for the Sodeco Group and Mercer Human Resource Consulting from 1987 until 2003. He holds a bachelor's degree in commerce from Laval University in Quebec City, Quebec. He became a fellow of the Actuary Society in 1971 and a fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries in 1972. Mr. Gérin has extensive experience in municipal politics. As the finance councillor for the Saint Bruno de Montarville municipal council, he was responsible for establishing the city's fiscal policies and planning economic development priorities. He is a municipal council member in Longueuil, Quebec, and the president of the borough of Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville. He was a member of the executive committee responsible for finances and the budget. Mr. Gérin has also been a member of the administrative council for the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal and president of the Commission du développement économique, des équipements métropolitains et des finances.
